Summer is officially over: days are getting shorter, temperatures are starting to dip and School of Wok's buy-one-get-one-free mega sale has sadly come to an end...
However it's not all doom and gloom because our generosity doesn't end there. To celebrate the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival we're pleased to announce a new multi-buy offer, giving you money off the more places you book on each class – buy 2 places for a 5% discount, buy 3 for a 10% discount or buy 4 for a 15% discount. Now there's no excuse not to bring your friends along!
The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is normally held on 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar, an ancient tradition of moon worship dating back to thousands of years ago.
There are many different stories about the origin of the Mid-Autumn Festival, but one of the most widely told is of a local hero called Hou Yi who shot down 9 of the 10 suns of the land to promote the harvest. After becoming respected and loved by the people, Hou Yi was offered an elixir of immortality which he gave to his wife Chang'e, who then transcended to live out of harms way on the moon where she still resides to this day. Hou Yi then gave her offerings of all of her favourite foods each year.
This custom is continued in modern times through the tradition of eating moon cakes on the 15th day when the moon is at its brightest. For your little slice of tradition, School of Wok will be giving out samples of moon cake for customers to try at our courses throughout September.
