Thai Green Curry

6 of the Easiest Thai Food Dishes You Can Make at Home

If you’re looking to make a quick and easy dish at home that’s different from what you would usually whip up on a weeknight, then why not give Thai food a try? Thai food is extremely healthy and versatile, so it can be enjoyed on a casual Wednesday evening or on a Saturday whilst hosting a dinner party for friends. The common misconception is that Thai food is complicated to execute, but the following six recipes couldn’t be more simple to create.

If you’re looking to enhance your cooking skills, then consider taking up a specialist cooking class in London here at School of Wok. We are able to offer a variety of classes that will teach you about how to cook dishes from a number of different cultures and cuisines. From Chinese and Korean to Japanese and Vietnamese, in addition to expert Thai cooking classes, we’ll have you covered when it comes to classic Asian dishes. If you’re just getting started, however, the following meals would be a great place to start:

1.  Thai green curry

One of the most classic Thai dishes you can make, a Thai green curry offers up an aromatic-yet-fiery flavour that would be perfect for any spice-lover. Often, chefs will throw intender chunks of succulent chicken that is simmered in a homemade Thai green curry sauce. A multitude of vegetables can be added, also, such as green beans and fresh red chillies, to name just a few. It’s a favourite with those who are hosting dinner parties and want to present their guests with something that’s light and delicious.

2. Thai Panang curry

Panang is a beautiful Thai curry that is smooth and rich in flavour, thanks to a combination of herbs and spices gathered from Malaysia, Burma and India. In contrast to a Thai green curry, a Panang curry is red in colour, but it’s also made, traditionally, with chicken as the main protein for the dish. Although there are an array of different ingredients that go into this dish, you’ll easily be able to combine them together to produce a complex, delectable flavour.

3. Shrimp Pad Thai

Pad Thai, much like the Thai green curry, is a favourite with people who are just dipping their toes into Thai cuisine. This is because it provides a beautiful flavour without much effort. The shrimp Pad Thai curry is considered to be gluten-free - perfect for those who suffer gluten intolerances. It can be enjoyed hot, fresh from a steaming pan, but it is just as delicious when eaten cold. This means you’ll be able to take any leftovers with you to work the next day. It’s a beloved dish that is hugely popular with both seasoned chefs and novice cooks.

4. Thai chicken salad

Thai salads are renowned for being incredibly colourful, flavourful and healthy. There are multiple protein options available, from steak and fish to chicken and prawns, with the most popular choice being chicken. Most of the time, a Thai chicken salad is drizzled with high-quality peanut salad dressing to give it an extra hint of saltiness that cuts through the sharp flavours that many of the vegetables will provide. It offers the perfect contrast of flavours that can only really be found in Thai cuisine, and more so with a traditional Thai chicken salad.

5. Thai chicken satay

Chicken satay is also a popular dish with novice Thai cooks, mainly because it’s simple to make but provides unrivalled flavour to be enjoyed by the whole family. Using chicken strips that are marinated in a classic Thai paste that is bursting with spices, it’s then skewered, grilled and served fresh, usually, with a homemade peanut sauce to offset the aromatic spices that the marinade is rich in.

6. Thai waterfall beef salad

So called thanks to the splashing sounds made when the beef juices hit a searing-hot grill, this beef salad is one of the healthiest Thai dishes you can make. The beef is thinly-sliced and served with nothing but leafy greens, fresh papaya and a bespoke Thai salad dressing for good measure. It can be enjoyed on its own or as a side dish to another Thai meal.
